Rooted in Africa’s Realities, Rising to Global Standards

Shaping Africa’s Future Through Lessons of the Past..

The Journey of ACCMP

Our Beginning

The African College of Crisis Management and Peacebuilding (ACCMP) was founded out of a growing recognition that Africa needed a home-grown institution dedicated to building the capacity of leaders, communities, and organizations in managing crises and fostering peace.

For decades, the continent has faced recurring challenges such as political instability, ethnic conflicts, humanitarian emergencies, terrorism, pandemics, and climate-related disasters. These crises often left communities vulnerable and institutions struggling to respond. While international partners offered support, it became increasingly clear that sustainable solutions had to be rooted in African realities, African knowledge, and African leadership.

It was against this backdrop that a group of peace practitioners, academics, policymakers, and humanitarian leaders came together with a shared vision: to establish a college that would equip Africans with the tools, skills, and research capacity to turn crises into opportunities for sustainable peace.

Early Development

From its inception, ACCMP positioned itself not just as an academic institution but also as a professional training hub. The founders envisioned a place where theory and practice met, where real-life African case studies would form the foundation of learning, and where professionals from different backgrounds—government, security, humanitarian, business, and civil society—could train side by side.

The college began with short courses and workshops in crisis management and conflict resolution. As interest grew, the curriculum expanded to include professional certifications, executive programmes, and community engagement projects. Partnerships were formed with local and international organizations, giving ACCMP a strong network of experts and collaborators.

Growth and Recognition

Over the years, ACCMP has become recognized as a leading center of excellence in crisis management and peacebuilding in Africa. Its graduates include policymakers, peace advocates, security officers, humanitarian workers, business leaders, and students who now serve in different capacities across the continent.

The institution has hosted conferences, policy dialogues, and collaborative research that have influenced both local and regional approaches to crisis response. By integrating African indigenous knowledge systems with global best practices, ACCMP has created a unique model of education and training that is both relevant and transformative.

Our Legacy and Future

Today, the African College of Crisis Management and Peacebuilding stands as a symbol of hope and resilience. From modest beginnings, it has grown into a trusted institution dedicated to training, research, policy, community engagement, and advocacy.

ACCMP’s history is not only about what has been achieved but also about what lies ahead. The challenges of Africa are evolving—cybersecurity threats, climate migration, youth unemployment, and governance crises continue to test our societies. ACCMP remains committed to preparing the next generation of leaders who will respond to these challenges with innovation, courage, and a spirit of peace.

As we look back, we celebrate our journey. As we look forward, we remain guided by our vision: to build a continent where crises are transformed into opportunities and peace is the foundation of progress.
